NYX Total Control Drop Foundation Review

Pretty excited to test this foundation! Would it work for my oily/combination skin?

Happy TUESDAY! My week typically starts on a Tuesday.

Today is a makeup review specifically a foundation.

Okay, so before we begin let me just state that I am not a makeup artist or a beauty expert. This is just my honest review about products I’ve tested due to my own curiosity and highly influenced by recommendations of most “online beauty guru’s”( Yup! I love makeup and skincare reviews too!). Hence, I wanted to SEE for myself if it really did really work on my oily/combination and sensitive skin type!

This foundation review will test coverage, exposure to different lights (natural and artificial) and how long will the foundation would last on my skin.

So if you wanna now my honest opinions of this product, keep scrolling =) .

It came with a dropper applicator to dispense the foundation. The texture or formulation was very runny. I mean really. . .really runny!

The foundation came in a frosted glass bottle and contained 13ml of the product.

Try on:

My skin type is oily to combination. Meaning, I get really oily through out the day on my T-zone then dry on the sides of my nose and cheek area. To test this product, I started with a cleansed and moisturized face. Then applied 8 drops total on each side of my face. 16 drops total for the whole face. Now I know the instructions clearly suggested 3-4 drops for full coverage but as you can see, I have a lot of “blemish spots”  so I wanted them really covered and besides, I was going to test this foundation for 5 hours, so adding a pretty good coverage would be necessary. I then blended it out using a “dense” foundation brush. The texture of the foundation was so runny. Since it was matte, I had to blend it out quickly because as soon as the foundation starts to set, it tends to get a little bit streaky. The shade out of the bottle was yellow toned but once blended to my skin, it seem to get a shade lighter. Then lastly, set with powder.

Next was to see if it was great in flash photo. Boom! You can immediately see that it gives a “white cast” on flash photos.

After 5 hours of wearing the foundation, My face did look just a little greasy on the forehead and nose area. Also the coverage started fading especially on my T-zone. My blemishes started peeking through. The foundation did transfer despite it claiming to set “matte” .

  • The NYX Total Control Drop Foundation had sheer to medium in coverage.
  • I had to apply more than 8 drops to totally cover my whole face.
  • It lasted a good 5 hours on my face without me looking like a grease ball and it was really lightweight.
  • Although claimed to have a “matte finish”, it  faded and transferred.
  • Had a powdery/ velvety texture after applied on skin.
  • The product does set quickly and a great primer or moisturizer is needed also to prevent it from clinging to dry patches.
  • I would suggest using a dense brush or kabuki brush to apply the foundation to get more coverage and to evenly apply the foundation.
  • Lastly, it did not irritate my skin nor did it feel uncomfortable throughout the day.

I would say that this foundation is good to try but if you have uneven skintone or acne marks, coverage is not in this foundation. Sad to say but I would not re purchase this.
